A Gift for New Mothers
From the Romanies, who tuck sprigs of rosemary
under the pillow to ensure sweet dreams, to the Magar
women, who use apricot oil to moisturize their cracked
nipples when breastfeeding, A Gift for New Mothers collects
practical and inspiring advice for new mothers. Covering
every stage of motherhood from conception up through childhood,
this title provides a wealth of surprising information.
What's the best environment for
birth? How are bonds formed between a mother and her child
in the first few days of life? What's the secret to telling
a child memorable stories? These questions and many more
are answered through wisdom handed down by generations.
Collected by prominent English journalist, and mother,
Deborah Jackson, the advice in A Gift for New Mothers
is a treat for women in any stage of motherhood, even
those who are just considering their first child.
Who's Not Asleep?
and One Big Hug
In WHO'S NOT ASLEEP?, night
is falling, the stars are coming out, and all the animals
in the backyard are falling asleep. One by one, they
curl up and shut their eyes. Except wait a minute -
someone is not asleep. Who is it? WHO'S NOT ASLEEP?
is a gentle tale that will lead your little one effortlessly
into Dreamland.
One Big Hug: In this charming,
whimsical book, a grandmother and her grandson try to
describe how big the love is between them. Is it as
much as one big hug? No, Matthew wants more. Is love
as big as five giraffes riding in a car? Or six monkeys
hanging on a star? Or can love be as big as forty-nine
frogs swinging on a clock? Or maybe fifty-five hippos
jumping over a rock? In the end, their love proves to
be immeasurable, bigger than the whole world.
Film
Guess Who
Review by Wilma Ann Anderson
I saw Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
(the film on which this remake is based) and I was not dissappointed
by this effort. Clearly, it was going to be a comedy with
Bernie Mac starring. 'Was it funny?' is the question. My
answer: I chuckled throughout the movie. Watching Ashton
Kutcher get comfortable in his physical and dramatic skin
was uncomfortable at times because I didn't know if his
character was supposed to be goofy or if it was
the real Ashton seeping onto the screen. I'm cool with goofy,
but this made me long for Mac's next scene. Upon leaving
the theatre, I compared it to Meet the Parents with
the race card thrown in. Should you go see it? Well, perhaps
if you're a die-hard Bernie Mac fan and if you need a good...chuckle.
Music
My
First Child
Brooklyn, NY singer/songwriter Carla
Lynne Hall's recording of My First Child is a lullaby
that celebrates the bond between a mother and her unborn
child so beautifully. It has been enjoyed by expectant moms
around the world, including celebrity moms Courteney Cox
and Debra Messing.
Carla's musical style has been compared
to Norah Jones and Sade, and her version of My First Child
has been enjoyed by both parents and babies. Listen!
