Aunt Ruby, Do I look Like
God?
Review by Angie Pickett-Henderson
One of the most perplexong questions faced by Christians
daily is, "What does God look like?" According
to the Bible, we are created in His image and formed in
His likeness. Although that is what the Wword of God tells
us, try telling a 5 year old that eveyrone he comes in
contact with looks just like God. Surely you will have
one bewildered child on your hands.
In Aunt Ruby, Do I look Like
God?, Ruby Taylor explores one of life's most perplexing
questions and explains to her niece, Bria, how and why
she looks like God.
The book is a wonderful addition to
all libraries geared for children. At the very end are
helpful scriptures to assist parents when explaining God
to their children. Also, there is a place for the child
to draw their very own picture of God. With some of the
most adorable illustrations seen in a child's book, Aunt
Ruby, Do I look Like God? will definitely
be one of those "every-night" reads.
Conquering Adversity
Review by Wilma Ann Anderson
Author Christopher Novak has
transformed a personal tragedy into a great testimony
about the power to overcome seemingly negative situations.
This is a finely crafted book that interweaves personal
and professional tactics
to help you and/or your business team wade through difficult
waters. The book includes clear diagrams that help you
map out a plan of action for conquering adversity. It
is rare that a book can straddle the self-help and business
fences as well as this one does. You may even shed a
tear while you are writing your to-do list. Read this
empowering book!
Film
Diary of a Mad Black Woman
Review by Wilma Ann Anderson
There is no absolute way I expected to
be so moved by this film. I expected a movie laden with
sterotypes and slapstick comedy. What I got was a look into
my own diary. There's something in this film that resonates
with men and women, Black people and white people. It's
story of hurt, healing and hope. It may not be a particularly
unique story, but that didn't seem to matter to me as the
film progressed. I wanted and needed to hear the cliches
and to be reminded that you can certainly find a rainbow
after it rains. |
